Accessibility Statement: The Neptune Cinema 53-Hour Film Festival

Last Updated: July 22, 2025

[Neptune Film Fest], the organizer of The Neptune Cinema: 53-Hour Film Festival ("Festival"), is committed to ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all participants, attendees, and visitors, including those with disabilities. We strive to make our events, held at Flyway Brewing Company, 598 Monroe Ave, Memphis, TN 38103, and our website, https://neptunefilmfest.wixsite.com/the-neptune-theater, accessible to everyone. This Accessibility Statement outlines our efforts to accommodate diverse needs for the Festival’s kickoff event (September 19, 2025), filmmaking process, and screening and awards ceremony (September 26, 2025).

Our Commitment

We aim to comply with applicable accessibility standards, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 for our website and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for our in-person events. We are dedicated to providing an inclusive experience for filmmakers, team members, and audience members attending the Festival.

Website Accessibility

Our website, https://neptunefilmfest.wixsite.com/the-neptune-theater, is hosted on Wix and designed with accessibility in mind. We strive to ensure that individuals with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive disabilities can access Festival information, register teams, and sign up for our email list. Our accessibility features include:

  • Navigation: The website is navigable using keyboards and screen readers.

  • Text Alternatives: Images include descriptive alt text where applicable.

  • Contrast and Readability: We aim to use sufficient color contrast and legible fonts.

  • Forms: The email sign-up and registration forms are designed to be compatible with assistive technologies.

We leverage Wix’s built-in accessibility tools to enhance usability. However, if you encounter any barriers (e.g., inaccessible content or functionality), please contact us to report the issue.

Event Accessibility

The Festival’s in-person events, including the kickoff (September 19, 2025, 6:00 PM) and screening and awards ceremony (September 26, 2025, 6:00 PM), are held at Flyway Brewing Company, 598 Monroe Ave, Memphis, TN 38103. We are working to ensure these events are accessible, with the following measures:

  • Venue Accessibility:

    • Flyway Brewing Company provides wheelchair-accessible entrances and restrooms. [Confirm specific venue accessibility features, e.g., ramps, elevators, or accessible seating, and update if known.]

    • Accessible parking spaces are available near the venue, subject to Flyway Brewing Company’s facilities.

  • Event Accommodations:

    • For the kickoff event (genre draw, prop assignment, and dialogue reveal at 6:30 PM), we will provide clear verbal and written communication of instructions. Printed materials (e.g., genre assignments) can be provided in large print upon request.

    • For the screening event, films are encouraged to include captions or subtitles to accommodate attendees with hearing impairments. Teams are responsible for adding captions to their MP4 or .MOV submissions, and we will ensure proper playback compatibility.

    • The awards ceremony will include verbal announcements and visual displays (if applicable) to accommodate diverse needs.

  • Assistance: Attendees requiring accommodations (e.g., sign language interpreters, reserved seating, or assistive listening devices) should contact us at least two weeks in advance (by September 5, 2025) to allow time for arrangements.

Filmmaking Process

The 53-hour filmmaking period (September 19, 7:00 PM – September 21, midnight) is managed by participant teams, who provide their own equipment and resources. We encourage teams to work with folks of all backgrounds including those with disabilities, and we encourage them to consider accessibility in their films, such as:

  • Including captions or subtitles for dialogue (including the required shared dialogue line).

  • Ensuring the unique prop and genre are presented in a way that is perceivable to diverse audiences. We provide flexibility for teams to create films within their means, and we welcome teams with members who have disabilities to participate fully.

Limitations and Ongoing Improvements

While we strive to make the Festival fully accessible, we acknowledge that some limitations may exist, such as:

  • The Wix platform may have occasional compatibility issues with certain assistive technologies.

  • Flyway Brewing Company’s facilities may have constraints beyond our control (e.g., limited space for certain accommodations). We are actively working to identify and address these barriers. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve.

Feedback and Accommodations

If you encounter accessibility issues with our website, events, or processes, or if you require specific accommodations to participate in or attend the Festival, please contact us:

Please provide details about the issue or accommodation needed, and we will respond promptly to assist. For event accommodations, contact us by September 5, 2025, to ensure we can make arrangements.

Governing Law

This Accessibility Statement is governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Shelby County, Tennessee.
